SUMMARY:ESGI 156 – the Norwegian Study Group with Industry
DESCRIPTION:ESGI (European Study Group with Industry) is Europe’s leading workshop bringing together mathematicians and industrial companies. These week-long workshops have been held annually since 1968 and were previously known as the Oxford Study Groups with Industry\, where they attracted leading mathematicians to work on industrial problems. The announced workshop is the second one in Norway. Information about the first one can be found here. \nCompanies submit mathematical problems for the study group to solve; often in the form of a modelling or an optimisation problem. Participants work in groups around each problem\, presenting the results of their efforts to industry at the end of the week. A written report on each problem is drawn up and presented to the companies. \nThis meeting is part of the series of European Study Groups and will bring together several European experts with a large experience in this type of events. SUMMARY:EURO PHD SCHOOL ON DATA DRIVEN DECISION MAKING AND OPTIMIZATION
DESCRIPTION:Del 13-22 de junio de 2022\, Instituto de Matemáticas de la Universidad de Sevilla. \nEsta Escuela de Doctorado EURO (EPS) se centrará en ofrecer a los participantes una formación avanzada sobre la toma de decisiones basada en datos. Esta EPS tendrá un componente metodológico y otro aplicado. La formación metodológica sobre el papel de la optimización matemática en la ciencia de los datos se impartirá en forma de conferencias y talleres informáticos. Las conferencias destacarán el modelado matemático y estadístico y la optimización numérica que hay detrás de las herramientas de análisis y visualización de datos. Los talleres informáticos harán que estos conocimientos sean aplicables. Las aplicaciones de los conocimientos adquiridos a la modelización de problemas industriales específicos serán presentadas por profesionales de la industria y elaboradas por los estudiantes de doctorado. Se desarrollarán y comunicarán modelos matemáticos y estadísticos y enfoques de solución numérica\, siguiendo un enfoque colaborativo\, en el que los estudiantes de doctorado trabajarán en pequeños grupos bajo la dirección de los instructores.
